Challenge
The client was running 23 physical servers in an on-premises data centre with no virtualisation, no redundancy, and backup procedures that hadn't been tested in three years. A hardware failure would mean days of downtime. Management wanted modern infrastructure without migrating to a public cloud — maintaining data sovereignty for regulatory compliance reasons.
Solution
We designed and deployed a VMware vSphere cluster across six Dell PowerEdge hosts with vSAN storage, achieving N+2 redundancy. The 23 physical servers were P2V migrated to virtual machines over two weekends with zero production downtime. vCenter provides centralised management and automated daily snapshots. The new infrastructure reduced power consumption by 42% and eliminated all unplanned downtime in the 12 months following deployment.
